At Stelae, you can choose from several available options such as bamboo, wooden, or salt urns, depending on the intended destination of the ashes: burial, transfer, or keeping them at home.
If you plan to transport the urn by plane, it must be properly sealed and must not contain any type of metallic material or decoration.

How long does it take to transfer the ashes after the cremation?

After the cremation of a loved one, you may transfer the ashes as soon as you receive them.
However, when transferring ashes outside Spain —where the requirements differ depending on the destination country— it will be necessary to wait until all required procedures have been completed.

What is the average cost of the cremation and ashes transfer service?

The average cost of a cremation and ashes transfer service at Stelae is around €2,495, although this may vary depending on the option selected.
Additionally, airport taxes must be considered, as they must be paid when collecting the ashes at the airport of the destination country (this cost is not included in the Stelae service).

Is the urn included in the cremation service price?

Yes, all Stelae cremation services include the cost of the urn for the ashes, although the type of urn may vary depending on the option chosen from those available.

Can I choose a specific destination for the ashes transfer? Does this affect the price?

Yes, you can choose any national or international destination for the transfer of your loved one’s ashes.
This naturally affects the service price, not only due to geographical distance but also because of the policies of each destination and any potential additional fees.

What if I want the ashes to be transferred outside the country?

Each country may have different regulations regarding the transfer of a loved one’s ashes.
Therefore, the required procedures can vary. You may need:

  • a special, well‑sealed urn (mandatory for air transport),
  • a transport permit,
  • or to contact the relevant consulate or embassy.

Remember that Stelae takes care of all these arrangements, including the air transfer of the ashes.

What documents do I need to request cremation and ashes transfer?

To request the cremation, you will need:

  • the death certificate,
  • the completed application form,
  • and the signed authorization for the funeral company.

If you wish to proceed with the ashes transfer, the required documentation may vary depending on the destination:

Within Spain, you will need:

  • the death certificate,
  • the cremation certificate,
  • and it is recommended to include a national literal death certificate.

Outside Spain, you will need:

  • all the above documentation,
  • plus a declaration from the funeral company stating the contents of the urn when the transfer is by air.

Additionally, each country and each airline may impose different policies, meaning requirements may vary.
